The Pattern

Snook were holding where the strongest flow met slower water along pass edges, bridge shadow lines, and nearby structure. The better bites came from presenting a bait naturally with the current instead of dragging it across the flow.

What Worked

Live pilchards and pinfish were the easiest way to get attention. Free-lined baits worked in manageable current; a small weight helped keep the bait in the strike zone when the flow increased. Anglers throwing artificials did better with suspending plugs and compact swimbaits that could be paused beside the current break.

How to Fish It

  • Approach quietly and avoid running directly over the holding water.
  • Cast up-current and let the bait sweep toward the edge.
  • Use enough leader for abrasion around rock, concrete, and shells.
  • Keep the fish moving away from structure immediately after the strike.

Next-Trip Plan

Start around the first hour of moving water, watch for showering bait, and relocate when a spot shows no life after several clean drifts. Check the current marine forecast and all current harvest rules before leaving.
