Start With the Correct Station
Choose the tide station closest to the actual fishing area, not simply the closest city. Predicted high and low times can vary across a large bay, river, sound, or island chain.
High and Low Are Turning Points
The printed high and low times describe predicted extremes. The useful fishing window often develops while water is moving between them. Current may lag behind the predicted height in passes, channels, rivers, and areas far from the station.
Wind Can Change the Result
A sustained wind can push water into or out of shallow areas, making the observed level different from the prediction. Pair the tide chart with the marine forecast and local knowledge.
Build a Repeatable Plan
Record when the current actually starts, the water level at productive structure, clarity, wind, and bait activity. After several trips, the tide chart becomes a timing tool connected to your own observations.
