Southern Salt Charters is Captain Danny Allen’s Cedar Key fishing business, also presented online as Cedar Key Fishing. Allen comes from a family with three generations of local fishing heritage and guides visitors through the area’s flats and backcountry.

Captain Danny and the boat

Allen grew up in a commercial-fishing family and credits his father, uncles and brother with shaping his interest in the water. His work also includes fishing television and tournament appearances.

The current home page lists a 2024 27-foot Dek Kat Trilogy with a 300-horsepower Mercury engine, modern navigation equipment and a wireless trolling motor. It describes capacity for up to six guests, although some specialty trips have smaller party limits.

Fishing choices and published rates

Four-hour flats trips are listed at $400 for two anglers, and six-hour outings at $600 for two, with $100 per additional angler. Seasonal specialty choices include cobia, tripletail and tarpon, and a Personal Best option concentrates on an angler’s target fish.

Specialty rates differ between the home page and the charter-options page. Obtain a written price for the particular species, duration and party size instead of relying on one of those conflicting figures. Seasonal availability should also be agreed directly.

Inclusions and preparation

Fishing-license coverage, rods, tackle, lures, flies and leaders are listed as included, with dry storage for personal items. The FAQ says Danny will clean and bag fish that may legally be retained.

Guests bring food, drinks and weather-appropriate layers. Refreshments can go in the boat cooler, and soft-sided coolers are also welcomed. Check before bringing bulky items. Call or text for the departure point, availability, deposit and cancellation terms; the general Cedar Key location does not identify one fixed boarding dock.
