Watch the Birds and the Sounder
Blackfin activity was concentrated where bait collected along the reef edge and nearby channels. Birds helped locate surface activity, while marks deeper in the water column rewarded boats that dropped compact jigs below the visible commotion.
Presentation
Small live baits produced quick bites when they stayed lively and separated from the boat. Feather lures and small trolling heads covered water between feeding areas. When fish sounded, a fast-sinking jig kept the opportunity alive.
Boat-Side Details Matter
Have the landing tool ready, clear loose line from the cockpit, and keep the next bait rigged. Tuna can turn a quiet drift into a short, intense bite window, so preparation often determines how many fish reach the boat.
