Find Life, Not Just Floating Grass

The productive weed held small bait, birds, and visible movement beneath the surface. Empty scattered grass was less reliable. Boats that slowed down and inspected each line before trolling long stretches found fish faster.

Keep One Fish Close

When a mahi was hooked, additional fish often followed it toward the boat. Keeping the first fish in the water briefly while another angler presented a live bait or small jig turned single bites into multiple opportunities.

Simple Offshore Setup

  • Rig several pitch baits before reaching blue water.
  • Keep a spinning rod ready for fish found under debris.
  • Use a dehooker and an organized cockpit to handle fast action safely.
  • Watch weather and sea state closely; offshore conditions can change quickly.
