Fish Were Easier to Track in Low Light
Cloud cover reduced surface glare and kept redfish comfortable in skinny water. Singles and small groups moved along grass edges and shallow potholes, often revealing themselves with a push of water before the fish was visible.
Best Presentation
A lightly weighted shrimp imitation landed softly and stayed in the feeding zone. Small paddle tails also produced when they were cast beyond the fish and brought across its path at a steady pace. Loud casts and repeated boat repositioning shut down the closest fish.
Practical Takeaways
- Use the wind to help make long casts instead of fighting it.
- Keep the sun or brightest part of the sky behind you when possible.
- Look for rays, mullet, and nervous water around grass transitions.
- Release fish quickly and avoid running a skiff across extremely shallow habitat.
