Core Rod and Reel
A medium or medium-heavy spinning outfit covers a large share of Florida inshore fishing. Lighter gear is useful on open flats; stronger tackle becomes important around docks, bridges, oysters, and large fish.
Leader and Terminal Tackle
Carry multiple leader strengths, corrosion-resistant hooks, jig heads in several weights, swivels when the rig calls for them, and a dependable line cutter. Leader strength should increase when abrasion risk increases.
Compact Lure Box
- Paddle-tail soft plastics
- Shrimp imitations
- Weedless spoons
- Topwater plugs
- Suspending plugs
- A few heavier jigs for passes and bridges
Safety and Fish Care
Add pliers, a dehooker, landing net when appropriate, vented sun protection, drinking water, first-aid supplies, and required safety equipment. Use wet hands, minimize air exposure, and release fish promptly.
