Steve Mullen’s community connection

Mullen is a Jacksonville native with tournament experience in offshore and coastal fishing. In 2009 he helped establish American Hero Fishing Charters with the Jacksonville USO and Mayport Naval Base. He also founded a Police Athletic League fishing club in 2013.

Teaching children is part of his background. Beginners are welcome, and the charter can suit a family that wants help with the basics rather than a highly specialized fishing challenge.

Fishing choices and prices

Inshore targets include redfish, trout, flounder, drum, sheepshead and sharks. Coastal or offshore possibilities include kingfish, cobia, black sea bass and other seasonal fish. Steve recommends a plan around the current bite.

The published prices are $675 for four hours, $875 for six and $1,075 for eight, covering one to three guests. Additional guests cost $100 each. The FAQ describes typical parties of one to four, so ask about any larger arrangement. Cards add 3.5 percent.

Supplies, tours and arrival

Fishing equipment, tackle and licenses are included. The FAQ confirms that kept fish are cleaned and bagged. A cooler is provided for your refreshments, while you bring food, drinks and sun protection.

Nonfishing tours are listed at $80 per person for ninety minutes, with ecology, birding, dolphin and pleasure options. Confirm the minimum party and final price for a tour.

Meet at the Mayport public ramp unless Steve gives different instructions. Ask for the departure time, boat facilities, deposit requirement and cancellation terms while reserving.
