The captains behind Odyssea

Rush Maltz grew up in the Florida Keys from early childhood. His biography names Captain Jose Wejebe as a mentor. He is also a host of Local Knowledge TV, but Key West remains his home fishery.

Casey Villone is a Key West native and part of the Odyssea team. He also captains Nocturnal for bully-net trips. Ask who will run your particular reservation if fishing with one named captain is important to you.

Four anglers and several fisheries

The fishing booking page allows up to four anglers. Bait, tackle, fishing license coverage and a cooler for food and drinks are included. The crew tailors the choice of grounds to the season and the fish guests want to pursue.

The operator lists sailfish, mahi, tuna, wahoo and kingfish offshore. Reef and wreck possibilities include yellowtail and mutton snapper, grouper, cobia and permit. Swordfish, offshore fly fishing and long-range outings require their own discussion. Specify the trip instead of leaving the booking on its default choice.

Published fishing rates

A six-hour charter is listed at $1,750. A full day on local reefs and wrecks is $2,200. Long-range full days start at $2,000 plus fuel, and swordfish trips are $2,500. The rate page also notes fuel surcharges on certain specialty trips.

Tortugas bottom fishing and Gulf shrimp-boat trips appear as additional options. Get the actual hours, range and fuel allowance for those plans. A local reef price should not be used to estimate a much longer run west.

Lobster hunting from the boat

The four-hour nighttime bully-net outing is listed at $800 for up to four people. Guests look for lobsters under the boat's lights and lower a long-handled net from above. Swimming or scuba diving is not part of this method. The trip can end earlier if the legal limit is reached.

The dedicated lobster page states a $200 deposit and a deposit refund with at least seven days' notice. Confirm that policy for your chosen reservation, since it is not automatically the rule for every fishing package. Trips depart around sundown during legal lobster season. Use Rush's phone or the website inquiry form to arrange the date and dock details.
