Captain Gus and his home fishery
Gus moved to the Sebastian area in the mid-1980s and says he began guiding full time in 1992. His website describes a broad local fishery with redfish, snook, tarpon and large spotted seatrout. Seasonal visitors add other possibilities.
A conversation with Gus is part of planning the trip. He asks about the ages of the anglers, their experience and what they hope to achieve. That helps him select the boat and avoid choosing a demanding style of fishing for someone who would enjoy easier action.
Two Maverick boats
The published boat choices are a 21-foot Maverick Master Angler and an 18-foot Maverick XL Deluxe. The larger vessel is listed for one to five passengers, with no more than four adults. The smaller boat is listed for one to three passengers.
Count everyone boarding, including guests who will not fish. Boat assignment depends on the number of people and the planned activity. Neither listing should be read as a promise that the largest group is suitable for every fishing method or sea condition.
Trip lengths and advertised prices
The rate page lists a five-hour half day at $300, a six-and-a-half-hour outing at $375 and an eight-hour day at $450. These figures cover two passengers, with $50 for each additional passenger.
The site contains older experience references and historic gallery sections. Treat its posted prices as advertised information that needs reconfirming. Ask Gus for the current total, departure time and payment arrangements before building a travel budget around them.
Family trips, trophy trips and realistic goals
Gus distinguishes between family fun, pursuing a particular species, catch and release and fishing for a meal. His booking advice stresses that the season, weather and the angler's ability can limit what is sensible on a given date.
A younger beginner may be better served by learning to work a spinning rod for smaller, active fish. A more experienced angler may want to spend time looking for a larger target. Discuss that difference early so everyone understands what the day is designed to provide.
What is covered and how to book
The published rate wording says everything except food and beverages is included. Ask specifically about licenses, tackle, bait and fish handling when Gus confirms the booking. Bring your lunch, drinks and protection from sun and wind.
Call 772-589-0008 or email info.psc@sebastianfishingguides.com. Include your preferred date range, passenger count and a telephone number. The Vero Beach street address is the published business address, not a confirmed boarding point. Obtain the actual marina or ramp directions, cancellation terms and weather arrangements from the captain.
