Captain Chris Camps

Chris settled in the Tampa Bay area after graduating from the University of South Florida. His biography describes teaching beginners and children, speaking to fishing clubs and taking part in charity fishing events. He has also appeared on Addictive Fishing with Blair Wiggins.

The website includes fishing reports from earlier years. They explain his experience with snook, redfish, seatrout, tarpon and other bay fish, but they are not a forecast for your travel week. Call Chris for the present bite and the best trip type for your date.

The Yellowfin bay boat

The published boat description names a 24CE Yellowfin with a Yamaha 300 four-stroke. Simrad and Lowrance electronics, a Minn Kota i-Pilot motor and two Power-Pole anchors are listed. The shallow draft helps Chris fish grass flats and other inshore water.

Dry storage and safety equipment are also described aboard. The service supplies bait and tackle, including FINS braid. If you want to bring a favorite rod, let Chris know ahead of time so it suits the fishing plan and available space.

Trip lengths and supplied items

Inshore trips are advertised at four to six hours. Tarpon and shark outings run six to eight hours. Prices are supplied by phone rather than posted as fixed dollar amounts. The rate page mentions discounts for seniors, military guests and first responders.

Fishing license coverage, a cooler with ice and trip photos are included. Large parties and corporate groups can be arranged across additional boats. Confirm the passengers assigned to each vessel and the complete group price when planning that kind of booking.

Reservations and weather decisions

A credit card is required to hold the date. The published rule requires at least 48 hours' cancellation notice; otherwise the full amount is charged. A captain-canceled trip for weather or another unforeseen reason is not charged. Chris also states that his insurance requires him to remain in port during a Small Craft Advisory.

Bring food, drinks, sunblock, sunglasses and a hat. Shoes should have non-marking soles. A light jacket is useful for a cool departure. Chris will provide the specific meeting point, so wait for those directions before choosing a ramp or marina yourself.
